What a week! What a buffet of teachings, information, contemplations, this workshop was so full that I found the capacity to eat diminish. My body and mind needed time to absorb the download of data from John. As this was his last teacher training, it was 35 years of study giving to us in one week, like a giant bolt of lightening in a cracker boom and a bang! Straight in and no messing!

Honestly I was overwhelmed at times, "you want me to teach this? in the same effortless and graceful way that you do?!" I felt my limitations arise often but what I realized that this is the best possible work for me, to discover more of my potential and to assist others in discovering their unlimited potential. Due to my situation as a child, I spent many years burying my emotions and moving away from explaining how I was feeling. This workshop a way for me to being to open more, share what I was feeling in such a way that my students can relate. Because at the end of the day we all have stuff, issues that we work on and this is a great attribute of the mind, creating this so we can go deeper beyond to see the beauty of truth that lies within our hearts. There is such goodness there and the more we continue to come to our yoga mats and remember the goodness there, the better this life we are living is going to get.

For those that know me well, you know that I don't show emotions very often and as you can see from the picture with John, I was emotional. I was feeling so moved by the week and everything I was soaking in. I was so happy to feel that shift, knowing I'm moving deeper into the capacity of my heart to feel and grow. I am so grateful for John Friend as my teacher, who supports my growth and to the practice of Anusara yoga, which just keeps giving and giving.

Here are some photos of the 160+ of us and John and I.....it was an amazing experience and I want to also send shout-outs to Diana of www.namastenutrition.net who opened her home and her fridge to me that week. Also to the Vancouver Kula, Leanne, Christine and Sjanie, 3 amazing spirits I was so happy to connect with again.

Lots happening over the next few months.....stay close and on your yoga mat and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Blessings,

Tahne

t

It is truly amazing and I feel so blessed to be here. There is about 160 of us from around the world, Sweden, Mexico, Canada, Germany, China and more and I am the only one from Ireland. There is also 5 pregnant ladies and one adorable 7 month old girl who joins her Mom on the mat during the workshop. The room is diverse in age, race, shape, size and form yet each one of us attending feels the connection to the energy being created and shared at this Level 2 Anusara Yoga Teacher Training.

The Boston Kula has done a tremendous job with decorating the stage full of radiant Autumn colors. There are vibrant orange pumpkins, a basket of apples and beautiful flowers and statues, I especially love the Nataraja. It is full of Shri and wonderful to gaze upon. The room is ablaze with colors of mats and clothes and the energy is high. I have to say that I'm loving seeing old friends and especially making new ones.

The purpose of this workshop is to deepen one's understanding of the Anusara teaching method. John Friend, the founder of Anusara truly makes is seem so effortless. And in some ways it really is, but we seem to limit ourselves and deem ourselves unworthy to teach or be able to convey it with the same Grace as John. What we have to remember, is to come back to the Source and know deep within, each one of us is so worthy and full of goodness. We practice Anusara yoga for the simple reason, it makes us feel good about ourselves and the world around us. It is a blessing to be here and I hope to absorb as much as I can to share it back home with others.

Here are some pictures from today. See you on the mat soon!

Tahnee

Today I've been feeling quite under the weather with a sore throat, runny nose and the comings of a cold. Not being able to practice makes me feel worse so when I was at Dunnes buying a few nibbles, my mood wasn't looking for the 'good' but rather what can fill the void or grumpiness I was experiencing. After rounding up popcorn I headed to the check-out where I discovered that today they had a fund-raising group helping to pack up the groceries. Normally I don't like this service because i like to pack and organize my own groceries (yes, I'm one of those).

Today the fund-raising group was the Irish Deaf Community. Hmm....how do you even say 'thank you' or 'thanks, but no thanks' , that I don't need anyone to pack my groceries, because 'I'm grumpy, broke and feel awkward?' Then i connected to the breath and just paused....I remembered how grateful I was to hear the clerk ask me for my Dunnes value card and how the fund-raiser grocery packer fellow might not hear her say that or be able to hear at all. I looked at his face, which was peaceful and focused on what he was doing. After he packed up my popcorn and I dropped a two euro into the bucket, I gave him the sign for hi, the only sign I know beside how to spell my name. Once he realized what I was doing ( I must be a bad signer) he lit up. We connected! We didn't have to speak to share the connection of communication because we were connecting from our hearts. I felt radiant and felt my crappy mood disappear. I made an effort to connect with someone above how I was feeling, I moved beyond my ego and instead into a basic human level of communication, our eyes and our energy. He signed thank you (i hope that's what it was!) and we both smiled big smiles.

This led me to ponder as I walked out of the store, as I was feeling so uplifted and thanking him for his energy, how often do we miss the boat? How often are we shown opportunities to connect with someone and instead we avert our eyes because we don't want to be bothered? How often in our yoga class do we not even say hi to our neighbor? While our practice is our own, there is a level of basic human connection that we forget to honor, a simple greeting. Can we make a difference in our own lives by taking a risk and smiling more? saying hi to our neighbors and saying thank you (and meaning it) with more regularity. We always have a choice in how to make a positive difference in each moment and each day.

Every moment of our lives is an opportunity to live fully and from our hearts. Please take the time to smile more from the heart and let the world see your radiant energy. As Ghandi said, "be the change you wish to see in the world!"

With Love,

Tahnee

It looks like there is a great line-up of teachers so in between grooving to the great bands, the wine tent and massages, get your yoga on with one of the teachers to ensure a blissful week-end!

Recently I was in London attending John's Teacher's Immersion, which was fantastic. The level of Yoga was amazing and the great new people that I connected with. It was such a diverse group from all over Europe and beyond and we are celebrated the wonderful teachings of Anusara and the light within us all!!!

Classes in Blackrock are being organized so stay tuned.

My computer is still in Canada slowly making it's way back; I will be starting podcasts this fall so please keep checking back!

With Blessings,
Tahnee

Note: not for the faint of heart. This posture will reach deep into the depths of any tightness lurking within the hips, it will move into any stress, tension or even an old injury that you're not aware of and make you feel everything within your hips. It's not called 'igniting the fire' for nothing!

Since 2002 this posture has been difficult for me and I think it's been stopping me from finding deeper depths in other postures (like Uttanasana). I don't want to feel limited by my body in yoga or in my life; I want to move with total freedom, with a lightness in my heart illuminating from my body. Anusara Yoga teacher Todd Tesen said that if I did this pose everyday for 30 days I would experience new freedom in my body. To be honest, it was easier at the time to hear those words, think that I 'might' act on it and stay in complacency then actually do something about it.

So I decided it was time to start and I'm sticking to it because I want to get a glimpse of my potential as a human being and this is one step on that path. I'm 3 days in and it was hard on day 2 because I had too much wine to drink the night before but I knew I had made the commitment to myself and in some ways to Todd (who instigated this).
Your Most Welcome!( that's how they greet friends here in Ireland)

So we made it to Ireland and our new home! It was a journey getting here and unfortunately my husband had a much rougher go coming over via Air Canada then I did. He had two spend two nights in the airport( one in Toronto and one in Heathrow) because Air Canada canceled the red-eye as the flight was only booked to 50 people( boo Air Canada). They canceled the flight at 11pm and unfortunately there were no hotel rooms available in TO airport area. This might not be so bad if you are traveling alone but he was with our toddler, who was asking for Mommi and baby India repeatedly. They made it two days later arriving in Dublin safe and sound, thank goodness. Airplane travel these days is not easy on anyone anymore.

Baby India and I had no real flight difficulties other then a 5 hour wait in TO where I spent at least 45 mins doing yoga. India was napping so I hit the floor and did hip openers, forward bends and a few down dogs. Sweet Relief. I think airports should offer yoga rooms for people to go and stretch in. Once I started my airport practice I noticed more people stretching out their legs which is great to see because being on an aircraft for any amount of time is hard on the body. Plus it's a wonderful way to pass the time, keeping grounded, moving the energy in the body and relaxing to the system. Its nice being at a stage in my practice where I can just drop and 'give me 5 pashimottasanas!!!' No, seriously, I know it's more important to do the yoga then worry about people 'may be thinking'. I let those types of worries go when I had kids I think. Now it's about the practice and how I hope to feel when I land after the long flight. Which was pretty rough regardless of how many pschimottasanas I did as I didn't sleep for 24hours but we made it and the little yoga helped, as it always does. Oh yes, I should mention Air Canada also left behind 3 of my bags and India's car-seat and it took them 3 days to get it to us, but at least it did arrive!

So now here in Ireland and it is fantastic! The weather compared to the deep-freeze of Saskatoon is unbelievable. I wore flip-flops out of the house the other day! My kids put on jackets and run straight outside! No warming up of the car and putting ten thousand layers on. It suits my Vata/Pitta dosha with the light rains and fresh air fueling my creative energy. I love the scenery, the village we live in, the ocean being just down the lane. The air is wonderful, the accents of the Irish enthralling and the history interesting. The social life is strong and the people welcoming. I enjoy looking outside my window at the lushness of the land and how green all the plants and foliage are. I feel very at home so far and look forward to settling in over the next few months.

There is of course, getting used to driving on the right side of the car and the left side of the road. There is no Starbucks but there is lots of tea. My range of food has changed (can't seem to find brown rice but there are lots of locally grown vegatables to chose from). I'm pleased that the Irish have incredibly high standards for their meat products, if you are interested, you can even find out what cow/chicken/pig the meat came from. Everything is traceable and accountable and while I'm not a huge meat eater, it's nice to know what you are eating comes from happy animals who are not full of hormones and steriods but rather quality natural feed and fresh air.

As for the yoga, well, let's look forward building community wherever we go and that's all I hope to do here. I hope to develop awareness to Anusara yoga and the benefit of Yoga to all. I will be offering my podcasts as well as other yoga tidbits so no matter where I am in the world so we can always stay connected. Many thanks for the power of the internet for that.

It seems my path is in constant motion, which is what life is all about. The shifts of seasons, the ebb and flows of tides, the sun rising and setting and the movement of energy in each moment, each second. To stay connected to the big energy, we must remember the breath as it is the link to all things, to everyone. The constant pulse of life that flows through all of us, through the gift of Nature. Our paths are all so unique, just like we are and recognizing our path is our journey, our own little rollar coaster ride. Always fun, sometimes scary but an adventure ride none the less. Let's go for it and take our paths to the next level!

So stay tuned because I've got lots planned. Next blog is ' why men should do yoga' and '30 days to happihips' . And make sure to join my group 'Tahnee's yoga space' on Facebook where I have video blogs on yoga, always entertaining and always a work in progress!

To Hillary Rubin for her inspiration and guidance....many many thanks....and to all of you, you have my full gratitude for being apart of something great - this thing we call Life!!!I thank you for your energy, time and comments. Keep em coming! With love, from Ireland....Tahnee

On my recent trip to Los Angeles I attended a three hour practice with Anusara teacher Todd Tesen. There were about 9 of us in the room and 4 were men. The men were of various shapes and sizes but each one of them had an amazingly beautiful practice. They exemplified poetry in motion and are a testament to why I think men should practice yoga. Not only because I think it's incredibly sexy (which I admit I do find it that) but rather its the presence they hold then they practice. They are graceful, vibrant, and powerful with their actions yet able to show a sweetness, a surrendering to their strength. Yogi men move with the intention of embracing more yet at the same time, allowing more of themselves to shine out simply for the joy. These men had a willingness to play with the body, to discover more of their potential and accept their limitations and to do it for no other reason, then its damn fun.

Men seem to be afraid of Yoga, perhaps because so many women have embraced it that there is hesitation to try it. Do they think it's too easy? Try a practice with Todd Tesen and one will soon change their mind about that! One excuse I hear often from men is that they are not flexible enough to do yoga, but that's the whole point! We come to yoga because we want to become more flexible and stronger, we want more out of lives and this is a great way to achieve it. A few male yogi friends have told me that they started to practice yoga because they 'heard lots of hot chicks were doing it' and while that is true( many of them have stayed with the practice because of what it has given them. A place that is free of judge-ments, a place where they could increase their physical ability as well as their mental focus and concentration. They got strong, increased their flexibility and improved their health and checked out 'hot chicks'! What more can a man ask for?!

Yogi men move with an awareness of not only their physical form but also of their inner self. Yogi men exude an inner stillness and confidence that is magical to see. To watch a male yogi have complete control over their body, someone like Todd, who is so incredibly graceful with how he moves his body, yet maintains a humility and a sensitivity that shows how powerful he is. One only has to take a class from him to see how he loves the practice of yoga and how the practice has served him in ways beyond description. John Friend is another one to watch if given the opportunity, he rarely demonstrates in a workshop and only once have I had the pleasure of seeing him in action. Truly magnificent! So calm yet the waves of energy flowing off him, inspiring all those around him. I have to admit that I love being in the presence of any Anusara Yoga teacher, male or female because they are simply inspiring. This photo is of Brandon who practiced beside me at Todd's workshop in Eka Pada Rajakapotasana. He offered it out beautifully while I, well, it's still a work in progress.

Men should practice yoga because it will enrich your life; Yoga makes everything better. I love men that do yoga, they are clued in and cool. So get off the couch, bench, chair and just do it!!! If you have any questions about where to attend classes or how to start, I will be more then happy to help. Just get out there and I will see you soon on the Yoga mat!!!

info@tahneesyogaspace.com
